My Promise to the Public
- Because I do not
consider copyrighted content to be "Intellectual Property", but
interpret Copyright as a measure to
be an incentive for the creation and benefit of the arts and sciences
- Because Copyright is a balance that
grants the author some
rights and gives
other rights to the public
- Because copyrighted content is
improperly being treated as a kind of "property"
- Because publishers, record labels, among
others want to take away the public rights to "fair use"
- Because for the above reason these
corporations and
businesses have distorted Copyright and make every effort possible to
reduce "fair use" and not pay the authors
- Because one of these measures is DRM,
which is often
called "Digital Rights Management" while some of us call it "Digital
Restriction
Management"
- Because DRM takes away more rights away
from the
public: the right to share the text, the right to transform a work from
one format to another, the right to fully exercise consumer's property
rights (e.g. they bought the DVD, they have the right to do with it
whatever they want), the right to reproduce a book in Braille for the
blind, the right to print it out, the right to copy it exclusively for
personal use, among others
I,
PEDRO M. ROSARIO BARBOSA, PROMISE:
- That every essay, book, thesis, the
website
contents, and so forth, will be released DRM free under the following
licenses depending on the case:
Any questions concerning this promise, please write
me to prosario2000@gmail.com.
